Read This! If you like mythology, fantasy, romance or adventure, these books have it all

I absolutely ADORE this series. I was IMMEDIATELY hooked. I would give it ten stars if I could. The Norse mythology interwoven with the story is well researched and not watered down. Amy is a strong female protagonist that only grows more sure of herself as the series progresses. Loki, well, I dare you not to fall in love with him. C. Gockel has managed to combine fantastic and mythical worlds and creatures with our own in a way that feels seamless. I currently have my preteen daughter reading it and she loves it too! We're talking about it as I re-read along with her. I have listened to her laugh so loudly I had to check and also sob because she connected with the characters so much.

Fantastic series

I read the stories in this boxed set separately.

This author does a great job with her spin on Norse mythology. Gockel's Loki is world weary while still having a childish delight in certain things that catch his fancy - like the internet, boobs, alcohol and spidermice. Amy is a great counterpoint. She is a real-world gal. She isn't magical, just smart. She doesn't have any special prophetic destiny - just trying to navigate life with all it's beautiful and gritty chaos. It is really satisfying to see the humans wrestle with the world of Norse gods. And the humor! Made me laugh out loud. And the science! Physics! String theory! Biology! All the science things!

This boxed set includes the first trilogy story arc and the bridging novella that launches you into the second arc (all connected and AMAZING). The series is now complete (if you're like me and hate waiting for the next installment).

"Really though, to those of you who read the reviews of a series before diving in (which is EXACTLY what I do), go ahead and take the plunge. There is humor and unexpected gems throughout each book. The characters are worth knowing and just when you think you've pegged Amy in a hole, you remember that even chaos is intrigued by her, so don't get comfortable. Reading is the main way I take care of myself and this series is nourishing in the best of ways. So, get after it." Ms Gockel's prose is beautifully written, characters are complex and interesting and plots zip along quite nicely. This series (which I read individually rather than in the set) has it all: mythology, adventure, romance, S&M (OK, not that last one!) with great characterisation. This series is my favourite find of the year, I couldn't put it down and have read everything Gockel has written one after the next. While I read this little lot, I had absolutely no life lol. It's really that good. I really can't praise it enough. Gockel's writing is up there with the best sci-fi/ fantasy writers: McCaffrey, Eddings, Le Guin, Zimmer Bradley...

Now stop reading this and buy the set. Don't delay. Your life will be the richer for it, I guarantee it.

this is a great book to skim

If you're looking for a broad overview of Powershell and all that it's capable of, this is a great book to skim. It covers the very basics and opens your eyes to the many ways of thinking about and using PS. That being said: this is absolutely not a book for beginners. Things aren't explained in-depth and the writing isn't very good (I was really surprised to see so many "editors" listed for a book with such needlessly clunky grammar), but if you are accustomed to working with non-native English speakers in industry, you'll be fine.

My advice: grab this at a library like I did and spend a couple hours with it.

I really enjoy reading this book

This book is filling the gap between .NET Developers and Administration tool like Windows PowerShell, before reading this book I was having small information about PowerShell and I didn't know it’ll help me in my development tasks, but unfortunately it missing a reference to parameters/cases, for example is IIS part it’ll show you how to change AppPool properties using PowerShell but not all cases included and no links.

Too short to be useful

If you're hoping to understand how to automate setting up machines, don't buy this book. If you're looking for a reference, don't buy this book. Most of the content jumps all over the place, full of links to MSDN and other resources instead of actually trying to delve into something. The author comes off as lazy or rushed. As a developer I am not looking for an explanation about the difference between an if and a foreach. I'm looking for information about how to write scripts to install my software and configure my environments. I wish I could get my money back so I could put it towards another, better book.
