YOU HAVEN'T MET AUSTRALIA TILL YOU'VE MET THIS

The old hero-story, thoughtfully retold, is always nourishing to read, but Wrightson offers us more: a first-class hero-cycle that is deeply, soul-quickeningly Australian. Wirrun is a young mid-20th-century Aboriginal man advancing to apotheosis (indeed) through encounter not only with the Aboriginal peoples of the "old south land" but also with the spirits who are themselves the land's oldest dreamings. Till I met them in Wrightson (a white Australian woman) these out-breathings of Australian presence were hidden to me. If bringing them forward in fiction like this involved a measure of cultural risk (I'm waiting on a ruling on that from the Aboriginal mate I bought this copy for), I, for one, can only be grateful. Profoundly respectful of the people whose lore constitutes so much of her material, she also loves them -- and shows it by enrolling Wirrun as a first-class member of that mighty, immemorial and global company that "climbs the rugged track to hero" on behalf of all of us, Australian or not, Aboriginal or not, man and woman alike.

About the Author
Belverd E. Needles, Jr., received his BBA and MBA degrees from Texas Tech University and his PhD degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He teaches financial accounting, managerial accounting, and auditing at DePaul University, where he is an internationally recognized expert in international accounting and education. He has published in leading journals and is the author or editor of more than 20 books and monographs. His current research relates to international financial reporting, performance measurement, and corporate governance of high-performance companies in the United States, Europe, India, and Australia. His textbooks are used throughout the world and have received many awards, including (in 2008) the McGuffey Award from the Text and Academic Authors Association. Active in many academic and professional organizations, he is immediate past vice president-education of the American Accounting Association. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas Tech University, the Illinois CPA Society Outstanding Educator Award and its Life-Time Achievement Award, the Joseph A. Silvoso Faculty Award of Merit from the Federation of Schools of Accountancy, the Ledger & Quill Award of Merit, and the Ledger & Quill Teaching Excellence Award. He was named Educator of the Year by the American Institute of CPAs, Accountant of the Year for Education by the national honorary society Beta Alpha Psi, and Outstanding International Accounting Educator by the American Accounting Association. He received the Excellence in Teaching Award from DePaul University.

Marian Powers received her B.S. degree from Chicago State University and her Ph.D. degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In addition to the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, she has taught financial accounting at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. She has also coauthored three interactive multimedia software products. She currently serves on the Board of the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois and is immediate past-chair of the Board of Governors of the Winnetka Community House. Excellent but not for the beginner

I used this Textbook in my MBA Financial Accounting course at DePaul Unversity in Chicago, IL. I had very little knowledge of the topic before I took this class.
This book is well written, well organized, and is not too wordy. Because of the depth of this book and its brevity, every sentence is important and I found I had to reread chapters about three times before I really understood the material.
I did notice a few minor typos in the chapter exercises, but for the most part I found it extremely accurate.
This is a difficult subject and this book covers much material. Each chapter must be read carefully. To fully understand the material, I highly encourage doing the exercises in the back of each chapter. Houghton Mifflin has the answer keys in Excel files on their web site, but you need a password to get it.
I can understand the person who found this book confusing. I don't think this book is great for somebody new to the subject. But after getting your feet wet in the subject, this is an excellent text.
This book will make a wonderful reference for years to come. In fact, my father, a small business owner wants my copy.

Pretty darn good, but a bit overwhelming for the beginner.

I used this book for my Financial Accounting I course I took this past Spring working towards my Bachelors degree. This was in the first accounting course and I really didn't know too much about accounting beforehand. While the book overall is a good text and full of helpful information and examples, the first chapter or two were totally useless because they approached accounting pragmatically and tried to cover too many fundamentals too soon. Accounting is not an easy subject and theres no easy way to get started with it. However, my professor (who had used the book before) skipped over the first couple chapters and taught us the fundamentals using her own method which did work very well and then the rest of the book made more sense. At times it seems the book might cover a topic or circumstance in only one or two sentences and then will have a problem or two that deal more extensively with that short concept. The only reason I could think they did this was to stimulate creativity and learning and force the student to figure out how to mold the various principles to fit a particular "new" situation rather than just have you memorize some rules. Some might not like this method...

This book is very much like the other previous and superb anti cancer books written by this author.
There are a few new things,like the best types of green tea etc.What really excites me is the number of scientific studies done on foods and anti cancer effects.He quotes a remarkable no. of them.
I myself take "vegi source" from Bronsons>This was Linus Paulings favorite source of all HIS vitamins.
THIS supplement supplies doses of green tEA,TUMeric extract, fennal seed, grape extract,onion, garlic and tons of other much needed vegatables

This book was recommended to me by my neighbor friend as she was undergoing treatment for cancer at MDAnderson since last October. She learned so much about what we can do to prevent/treat cancers and she began incorporating this information into her lifestyle, as well as sharing the good news with everyone. At this moment she has received the latest test results that she is CANCER-FREE!!!

I have been making changes in my family because I believe it! It just makes sense. We can all benefit from reading this and deciding to eliminate those toxins (in our environment and what we eat). Why not?! We know that our Western diet, junk food, sugar, etc. are making us sick, obese, leading to illnesses (including cancer) that we can prevent. The author, Dr. David Servan-Shrieber, has been there, researched, and survives to tell us about it. We would do well to listen!
