Common sense tips that we often overlook but could be better written

This is not the best grammatically written book but the points still come across loud and clear. As a manager, I struggle with motivating my team and dealing with conflict. Actually, the majority of my working hours in my office are spent dealing with the team. So learning how to effectively build your team is very important. I will go back to this book and re-read the key points because as it suggests, it is best to start with 1 or 2 than trying to implement all at once. I’m excited to view the Ted Talk it refers to as well. Most of the points made in this book seem like common sense and the author points this out. However, it is also pointed out that we tend to overlook the simple, common sense actions we could be making that can give us a very high return on investment of time. One of the biggest duh moments I learned from this book was using getting the work finished as the motivator instead of using money as the motivator. Instead of worrying about and paying for butt in seat time, the book points out that people will be much more motivated to get the job finished if the pay is the same and they can be released after the work is complete. Personally, this is a big motivator for me. Money being equal, to have the extra time to do other things because I pushed hard and got my work done instead of dragging it out seems like a huge incentive. If you are looking for quick tips to implement in your team and can get past the manner the book was written, you will find quite a bit of value in this book.

I have to admit, I wasn't thrilled with this book. It has potential but it's just far too short and barely scratches the surface. In addition, it needs a good edit - the grammar isn't great and there are a number of misspellings. There are some good points made in the areas of leadership, motivation and core success principles, but it's hard to get past the ESL-style writing.

It is very informative and provides great content around the topic of team building. About the Author
Bob Coecke is Professor of Quantum Foundations, Logic and Structures at the University of Oxford, where he also heads the multi-disciplinary Quantum Group. This is the third book that started with Moonstruck Madness followed by Chances the Winds of Fortune. This book starts out with Rhea and Dante returning to England. And the couple starting their new life together at his estate where he reclaims his title. Great reading...this book keeps you interested. Rhea's devotion and love to Dante and his to hers is just beautifully written. Plus their is a surprise ending.

Wonderful and sweet. A perfect finish for the trilogy.

This book was wonderful. I would highly recommend reading the first two books in this trilogy before this one ("Moonstruck Madness" and "Chance the Winds of Fortune") - only because together they create this huge, lush world and story of two families (Sabrina and Lucien's - then Rhea and Dante's) and the people surrounding them.

It was refreshing to read a story where the heroine is such a good and honest person - never trying (or able) to hide her feelings - like in so many other romance novels (even other Laurie McBain novels). Because it is a continuation of "Chance the Winds of Fortune", the two main characters are already together, and this book is more about their continuing relationship, and dealing with their families and old enemies.

Characters from the first two books reappear and are not just token reminders of the old characters - entire chapters are written from their perspective which is so unusual and enriching.

A delicious read. Easily the best romantic trilogy I have ever encountered.

I remember well reading this book in high school and being blown away by the conclusion of the Laurie McBain trilogy. I enjoyed reading the first and second books; Moonstruck Madness and Chance The Winds of Fortune and eagerly waiting for the third. If you can find these books, do so! They are well worth the effort if you can hunt them down!

Best history book I have ever seen!

If you had to get stuck on a remote island without a computer, smart phone, and could only have one book, this is the one. This covers all history not just 20th century, not just American, Jacques De Molay, Justinian, Tupac Amaru, are all listed, along with thousands and thousands of others. If you have a child who isn't into history, or feel like their history books are light on info this book will take care of it. It really is more fun to look through this, compared to looking up everything on Wikipedia.

Great Thumbnail History

A wonderful historical resource. It's far more than the "timeline" title suggests -- a timeline does run from page to page, but each page is rich in details about the era. The color-coded pages allow quick access to specific historical periods. The information is well summarized without extraneous details. And there are lots of interesting pictures, maps and illustrations. I wish the earlier periods had been covered in greater detail, and the later ones pared down a bit, but that probably has much to do with the availability of material. Fun to browse, and an excellent reference to keep at hand.

Absolutely essential if you are interested in history. The entire history of the world at your fingertips, with lots of great graphics. One of the things I especially love about this book is that much of it (beginning in the 1900's) has a full two page spread for each year. It's extraordinary to see the events of the year 1914, for example, laid out in such detail. For earlier periods (the 1400's, for example) a ten year period may be covered with a two page spread, clearly laid out in columns and again, supported with lots of images. This is a wonderful resource, to be referred to time and time again (no pun intended). Highly recommended.

Lots of good basic information but not many hair do's

This is not a bad book iteself. It has some basic useful information on how to take care of different hair styles, from cutting to hair accessories.
I was a bit disappointed because I expected to see a lot more hair styles than what the book actually offers.

Not a bad buy, but I find only a couple useful styles I can actually use. Some of them are just basic buns, braids, etc. If you are looking for something a lot more creative, then don't get this book. If you are looking for basic how to's then it's a good way to start.

Fantastic Resource!

Cozy's Complete Guide to Girls' Hair by Cozy Friedman is all about hair. If you need some guidance on cutting hair or styling girls' hair, this is one to definitely check out. It is beautifully illustrated, and fully explains the different techniques so just about everyone can do it.

This is the perfect book for everyone who needs help with their girls' hair. Going to the beauty salon for young girls isn't a fun place to go and can be pricey. Sometimes you don't really need to go for that expensive haircut or quick fix (for instance if gum is caught in the hair). Not everyone knows how to trim bangs, get that gum out, or any of the other variety of things that can happen to hair. This book gives the answers needed and also helps to explain and show how to do many different hairstyles that girls will love to show off to their friends.

This guide is in full color and is beautifully illustrated to show the different types of hair, hairstyles, and all of the other tips about hair. It is written in an easy to read and understand manner, which makes it very nice to actually try the styles shown in the book. Some are really easy and don't require more than five minutes. There are also some that will take quite a bit of skill (especially the special braiding techniques), but they can be mastered if you (and the person whose hair you're working on) has the patience to sit still long enough.

Overall, I found the book to be helpful for those that have children and also for those that don't. The tips and even some of the hairstyles can be used for all many ages on girls of all ages. I highly recommend it.

A great text in need of an update

My perspective is based on teaching a 100 student comparative anatomy course at the sophomore/junior level. This text is unique among comparative anatomy texts in its organization and approach. There are three sections to the text: 3 chapters on the SURVEY OF VERTEBRATE ANIMALS, the bulk of the text on THE PHYLOGENY AND ONTOGENY OF STRUCTURE, and a third portion, STRUCTURAL ADAPTATION. The material in this third section is usually dispersed throughout the presentation of body systems in other texts. Separation of the "structural adaptation" into a completely different section allows the instructor better flexibility in presentation, and it make the reading of the body systems more readable.

The bulk of the text on the evolution and development of organ systems is of the most concise of any text. This is particularity appropriate for a sophomore level course. Addition of the topics of a biomechanical nature in the latter part of the text enriches the students understanding, providing a more advanced perspective.

Two major drawbacks exist. First and foremost from a didactic point of view is the black and white illustration of the text. While the figures and illustrations ARE quite good, their lack of color makes this text less than attractive to students. While as one already educated in the topic of the text I find the illustrations useful, from the standpoint of a student these figures are forgettable and bland. Compare to any introductory biology or human anatomy & physiology text where the market for texts is strong, and this text looks to be 50 years old. The second downside to the text is its use of Linean nomenclature. Other texts in the market have gone to a cladistic approach and some (kardong) acknowledge linean nomenclature where appropriate but use predominantly cladistic nomenclature. While anyone can see the utility in using Linean nomenclature for the purposes of teaching undergraduate-level students, this system is not used in the modern literature and is flawed in its approach that ignores groupings based on common decent. Liem et al, for example, goes in an entirely different direction, using a strictly cladistic terminology and offers too much detail from my perspective. There must be some middle ground that allows one to incorporate modern terminology and phylogeny while still being accessible to the student.

All-in-all, a great text with a few kinks. Overall, I'd recommend this text to any student of comparative anatomy and their instructors. For those wanting a resource/reference for phylogenetic or ontological aspects of vertebrate evolution and structure there are better texts available.

This was a required text for my Comparative Anatomy course. My professor did align her syllabus sequentially with the text and some of the information was useful. The pictures were particularly good even though they were all in grayscale. The language used by the author was archaic and made the whole book difficult to read. As a graduate student, I understand that some of our language is esoteric, but this book was extremely verbose and antiquated in style. Final analysis: it covers all the bases but it is quite difficult to read.
