Excellent book

I have been dealing with Earthquake Engineering for approximately 10 years. This is the book that I started with and surprisingly, I still refer to it on a regular basis. It provides a very comprehensive insight into Earthquake Engineering and achieves the difficult balance between discussing state-of-the-art research topics and providing worked examples and detailed reference to modern seismic codes. It is therefore an excellent tool for both engineers who want to design based on a good understanding of the fundamental concepts and for researchers who need a coherent guide to mode advanced issues. By far the most valuable book in my library so far.

Great reference book

I bought this book new back in the 70s for a wildlife class that I was taking. I have often referred to it for methods of live animal control. It has plans for building your own live animal traps. I have just opened it again to help me with a Forest Management Plan for our property. I really like how it's written in a logical format. lot's of great ideas on how to. About the Author
Wendy J. Schiff MS, RDN received her BS in biological health/medical dietetics and MS in human nutrition from The Pennsylvania State University. She has taught introductory foods and nutrition courses at the University of Missouri– Columbia as well as nutrition, human biology, and personal health courses at St. Louis Community College–Meramec. She has worked as a public health nutritionist at the Allegheny County Health Department (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) and State Food and Nutrition Specialist for Missouri Extension at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. In addition to authoring Nutrition for Healthy Living and Nutrition Essentials: A Personal Approach, Wendy has coauthored a college-level personal health textbook and authored many other nutrition-related educational materials. She is a registered dietitian nutritionist and a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Tammy J. Stephenson, PhD, received her BS in Food Science and Human Nutrition and PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Kentucky. She has taught a wide variety of food, nutrition, and wellness courses, including introductory nutrition, to majors and nonmajors in the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition at the University of Kentucky for the past 15 years. Dr. Stephenson is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, serving as Chair of the Nutrition Educators of Health Professionals practice group. She has published and presented on service learning, technology in teaching, student-centered learning, and other related topics. Dr. Stephenson has a passion for teaching engaging, interesting, and relevant nutrition courses that has been recognized through multiple teaching and mentoring awards at the university, state, and national levels. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys running, yoga, coaching youth soccer, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.

About the Author

Jens Zimmermann is Professor of English and Canada Research Chair for Interpretation, Religion and Culture at Trinity Western University, Canada. As well as speaking on the importance of hermeneutics and religion to lay audiences and graduate students, he has published books on theological hermeneutics in both English and German and has written articles on hermeneutics in academic journals. He is author of Politics and the Religious Imagination (Routledge, 2010) and Humanism and Religion (OUP, 2012).

Fantastic

This is an informative, clear, and concise summary of hermeneutics. Moreover, I would also recommend it as the best introduction to the philosophy of Martin Heidegger, who is so important to the subject that he might as well be a subtitle to the book. I wish there had been a chapter on psychology (Freud's most famous book is called The Interpretation of Dreams, after all), but considering the scope of a Very Short Introduction I still think this is worth five stars. (I read the kindle edition.)

Very useful, this is the second time I purchased a book in this series ( A very short introduction). This book is useful to get a topical survey of hermeneutics, The Zimmermann makes import point after point, no wasted space. These kind of books are useful for creating innovation because one can quickly survey a topic and consider its usefulness in one's own research. If there is a connection then the references and further reading section directs you toward the depths. Personally. I had heard of hermeneutics but wasn't so familiar. This turned out to be the thing I was looking for. So much so that I believe it should be taught at the 6th to 8th standard of education. Every human should learn the philosophy and methods of interpretation and meaning. Unfortunately Hermeneutics classes only show up in College and Universities. Looking back it would have been nice in those teenage years to understand why I am studying what I am studying.

This lady is on my "check for new books" list and this book is a good example of why.

Great designs...wonderful detail that doesn't require using a pencil sharpener every two strokes (I can actually use my softer pencils that won't hold a sharp point....yaaaayyyyyy!)...single-sided thick paper.
